Thomas Richard Norman Fetherston, born May 13, 1922 at High River, Alberta, completed high school in 1939 before marrying his high school sweetheart. Working as a grocery clerk at his family’s grocery store in High River, Fetherston enlisted at Calgary, Alberta April 19, 1941. Fetherston served with the Royal Air Force attached to No.102 Squadron (Tentate et Perficite) as a Flight Sergeant (2nd Pilot) during the Second World War. A heavy bomber squadron, the No. 102 took part in the 1000-bomber raids over Germany and carried out attacks on enemy industrial sites in France. On November 9, 1942, Flight Sergeant (2nd Pilot) Thomas Richard Norman Fetherston died after his Halifax bomber failed to return from a raid over Hamburg, Germany. Fetherston and his crew perished when their four-engined bomber crashed off the Dutch coast. Lost without a trace, Fetherston is commemorated at Runnymede War Memorial, Surrey, England and on a monument in the Nes General Cemetery, Frisian Islands, Ameland, Holland. Only child of Thomas Reginald and Ann Mary (nee Kaiser) Fetherston of Nanton, Alberta; husband of Helen Winifred (nee Frazer) Fetherston; father of Sharon Marianne; he was 20 years old.
